Electronic Scrap Recycling
The problems associated with disposing of electronic scrap in landfills and also the risk inherent in potentially leaking sensitive company data has not gone un-noticed. Since 2004 in Europe, the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive has tackled the rising tide of e-waste by requiring manufacturers to take back equipment for the express purpose of electronic scrap recycling. This process has been aided by improvements in technology which allow for the effective dissolving of solder used in circuit boards yet have no effect on the performance of the electronic components. This allows for almost 100% recoverability of the precious metals used in the manufacture of electronic components.
