What do termites normally look like
Thursday, June 10th, 2010One of the most economically destructive organisms is the termite. Worldwide, termites cause billions of dollars of damage on an annual basis. The damage inflicted on buildings is due to termite’s voracious appetite for wood. It is their diet, and normally in a forest, termites have a very important role as the prime decomposers of wood. But in urban areas, some species of termites have adapted to the manmade environments and thus, anything made of wood is at risk.
Most people have no idea how termites look like, except that they are white. Which is correct, but not always. Some species of termites are even black in colour, but normally, the destructive species of termites are the pale, white coloured variety, which are subterranean in habit. The white colored termites are the ones that people have in mind when they talk about “white ants.”
So how do you spot a termite if you come across them? Here’s more on what do termites look like.
