Can fasting boost HGH levels?

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Fasting is a key component of many religious and holistic health practices down the ages. It has been used to maintain and improve health, and also to tune the mind to more esoteric purposes. Fasting also cleanses the body of toxins and impurities. But, what many are not aware of is, fasting exerts its benefits mainly through the increase of growth hormone (HGH) in the body during fasting.

The main reason why fasting is so highly beneficial is because during a fast, the level of HGH in the bloodstream starts going up and may spike at a high level. This is because the level of insulin drops during a fast, and HGH, being antagonistic to insulin, operates a whole lot better when insulin is not present.  It is no wonder, people who practice regular fasting in a healthy manner often look younger than their age, and are fitter, with sharper minds. Could this be attributed to their high HGH levels? Read more about fasting and HGH.

Beating back aging with HGH

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

HGH has been touted as the fountain of youth by some scientists, while dismissed as nothing but hype and quackery by others. The acronym for Human Growth Hormone, HGH is nonetheless increasingly being used by those willing to believe that aging can indeed be rolled back, or at least slowed down to a manageable level. After all quality of life should not suffer along with advancing age, and this should be a new mindset to have.

Despite what naysayers say, medical science is already making big strides with organ replacement technology, and also stem cell research. Aside from that, telomere research is another area of exciting development that bodes well for the future. But, what about HGH, and why is it also now seen as a key player in anti aging science?

From what scientists know, HGH levels decrease after we reach adulthood. Simply explained, because we are not “growing” anymore, the body somehow deems that HGH need not be produced in so much quantity anymore, and the pituitary gland slows down its production of growth hormone - that is when we start noticing wrinkles, falling hair, fatigue and the usual “aging” symptoms.

But what happens when we somehow manage to restore the levels of HGH in our bodies? This has been a key finding in the now famous Dr Rudman paper. In the study, Rudman found that restoring HGH levels lead to big health improvements in his test study of a group of elderly men. Ever since then, HGH has been increasingly studied and validated as a very viable anti aging agent - by many eminent doctors.

To summarize, there really is no hard and fast silver bullet to aging. But the options we have today, and the measures we take to address aging, will keep us in good stead, health-wise, for the future. In fact, we live in much more fortunate times than our ancestors ever did, and yes, we really can beat back aging!

Say “NO” to aging!
