Can fasting boost HGH levels?
Monday, February 25th, 2008Fasting is a key component of many religious and holistic health practices down the ages. It has been used to maintain and improve health, and also to tune the mind to more esoteric purposes. Fasting also cleanses the body of toxins and impurities. But, what many are not aware of is, fasting exerts its benefits mainly through the increase of growth hormone (HGH) in the body during fasting.
The main reason why fasting is so highly beneficial is because during a fast, the level of HGH in the bloodstream starts going up and may spike at a high level. This is because the level of insulin drops during a fast, and HGH, being antagonistic to insulin, operates a whole lot better when insulin is not present. It is no wonder, people who practice regular fasting in a healthy manner often look younger than their age, and are fitter, with sharper minds. Could this be attributed to their high HGH levels?
