Date: 2017-09-28

It's official: Warner Bros.

Pictures' sequel to their record-breaking, big-screen remake of It (inspired by Stephen King's 1986 novel) will be coming to theatres on September 6th, 2019.

THR revealed Chapter Two's official release date on Monday after the creature feature surpassed The Exorcist (1973) as the top-grossing domestic horror film of all time.

Director Andy Muschietti hopes for the Gary Dauberman-penned script in January and is planning on beginning pre-production for the second film in March.

"My idea of Mike in the second movie is quite darker from the book," according to Andy. "I want to make his character the one pivotal character who brings them all together, but staying in [fictional Maine town] Derry took a toll with him. I want him to be a junkie actually. A librarian junkie. When the second movie starts, he's a wreck... He will bear the role of trying to figure out how to defeat [Pennywise]. The only way he can do that is to take drugs and alter his mind."

Muschietti has only confirmed one other castmember – Bill Skarsgard as the titular Pennywise The Dancing Clown.
