The Business End: Why the Premier League is Hotting Up Like Never Before

If there is one thing you can guarantee about the English Premier League, it is that the arrival of spring brings unparalleled drama. As we hit the middle of March 2026 and barrel towards the business end of the season, the table is taking shape in ways very few pundits could have predicted back in August. Whether you are looking at the race for the trophy or the desperate scrap for survival, there are incredibly exciting times ahead for football fans.

The Race for the Crown

At the summit, Arsenal are putting on an absolute clinic. The Gunners are sitting pretty at the top with 70 points from 31 matches, playing a brand of ruthless, free-flowing football that has them firmly in the driving seat. However, anyone who has watched this league knows that you can never count out Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's men are currently sitting in second place on 61 points, but crucially, they have a game in hand. A nine-point gap sounds massive, but City are notorious for putting together relentless winning streaks in the final months.

Just below them, the battle for the remaining Champions League spots is fierce. Manchester United have consolidated third place with 54 points, while Aston Villa continue to upset the established order, sitting in a brilliant fourth place. Liverpool and Chelsea are breathing right down their necks, ensuring the race for European football will go down to the final day.

The Relegation Dogfight: A Giant in Trouble

While the title race is captivating, having watched the tension build from the stands week after week, I can tell you firsthand that you also need to keep an eye on the relegation battle. The bottom of the table is currently serving up a level of chaos we have not seen in years.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley appear destined for the drop. Wolves are rooted to the bottom on a mere 16 points, while Burnley sit just above them on 20 points. Both sides look completely bereft of ideas and are running out of runway to mount a great escape.

However, the real story is the final relegation spot. West Ham United currently occupy 18th place on 29 points, but they are tied on points with Nottingham Forest in 17th. Yet, the most shocking narrative of the 2025/2026 season is the club sitting just one point above the drop zone. Tottenham Hotspur are languishing in 16th place with just 30 points. Seeing a traditional heavy hitter dragged into a genuine relegation dogfight is surreal. The tension around North London is palpable, and every single point they drop feels like a step closer to a historic catastrophe.

With Leeds United also hovering dangerously close on 32 points, the fight for survival is going to be brutal, unpredictable and utterly compelling.

Fasten your seatbelts. The final eight weeks of this Premier League season are going to be a bumpy, brilliant ride.
