SCHOOL BOY RUGBY!

Top Schoolboy Rugby Results: Old Rivalries And Breathtaking Matchups

If you want to see pure, unadulterated passion on a sports field, forget the professional leagues for a moment. First XV schoolboy rugby in South Africa is an entirely different beast. It is an amazing spectacle to watch, deeply rooted in traditions that stretch back over a century. Every single weekend, young men put everything on the line for the badge on their chest, backed by thousands of screaming supporters.

This past weekend delivered some of the most magnificent matchups and old rivalries we have seen all season. As the dust settles on a massive day of premier interschools fixtures, the national rankings have been completely shaken up.

The Johannesburg Derby: KES Edges Jeppe

There are few fixtures on the schoolboy calendar that carry as much historical weight as the clash between Jeppe High School for Boys and King Edward VII School (KES). When these two Johannesburg heavyweights meet at Collard Field, the form book goes completely out the window.

Both teams brought immense physicality to the park. Jeppe fielded a massive pack of forwards, dominating the early collisions, but the Edwardians proved incredibly resilient. In a fiercely contested match that lived up to every ounce of its billing, KES managed to secure a breathless 26 to 25 victory. It was a classic demonstration of how tight this rivalry remains, with the visitors holding their nerve and doing just enough to shut out the home side in the final, frantic minutes.

The Heartbreaker In Pretoria: Paarl Gimnasium Stuns Affies

Over in Pretoria, the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) hosted Paarl Gimnasium in what was expected to be a brutal arm wrestle. It delivered on all fronts, ending in absolute heartbreak for the local supporters.

Affies fought back brilliantly from an early deficit, relying on total dominance in the scrums to take a narrow lead in the second half. However, Paarl Gimnasium simply refused to lie down. In a sequence that will be talked about for years, the visitors kept possession for 11 gruelling phases deep into extra time. With the hooter long gone, Paarl Gim lock Adriaan Ludick crashed over the try line, leaving Daniël Beukes to slot the crucial conversion. The Boland side snatched a 35 to 33 victory straight from the jaws of defeat.

The Giant Killers: Stellenberg Dismantles Paul Roos

While the traditional powerhouses battled it out, the most significant shockwave of the weekend came from Bellville. Stellenberg High School, affectionately known as the Jade Brigade, hosted the previously unbeaten Paul Roos Gimnasium.

Having already slain Paarl Gimnasium and Grey College earlier in the 2026 season, Stellenberg proved that they are no longer just an underdog story. Trailing at halftime, the home side rallied magnificently. Tighthead prop Janu van Deventer squeezed his way through the defence, and flyhalf Ethan van Biljon sealed the deal with a late penalty. The 20 to 10 victory was Stellenberg's first ever win over the Maroon Machine, cementing their status as the team to fear this year.

Weekend Results Summary

The action was not just limited to the headline clashes. Across the country, attacking rugby was on full display.

  • Parel Vallei Takes The Win: The Bulldogs successfully shed their underdog status to secure a comfortable 32 to 17 victory over Milnerton, largely thanks to two tries from fullback Shudley Rhoda and the accurate boot of Stephen Niemann.

Schoolboy rugby continues to prove exactly why it is the beating heart of the sport in this country. With results like these, the rest of the season promises to be an absolute thriller.
