LATE FERNANDEZ STRIKE ROCKS CITY

Manchester City were left to rue missed chances and late drama as Chelsea snatched a 1‑1 draw at the Etihad Stadium in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

A thrilling encounter ended in heartbreak for City when Enzo Fernández pounced in stoppage time to level the score, denying Pep Guardiola’s side all three points.

City looked in control for most of the match and had the lead heading into the break thanks to Tijjani Reijnders’ powerful 42nd‑minute strike, which found the net off a deflection and gave them the advantage.

They created plenty of openings after the interval, with Erling Haaland hitting the woodwork and Gianluigi Donnarumma called into action on several occasions, but couldn’t find the killer second goal that would’ve put the game to bed.

Chelsea, meanwhile, arrived at the Etihad in turbulent fashion. The Blues were managerless after parting ways with Enzo Maresca earlier in the week, and under‑21 coach Calum McFarlane took temporary charge.

Despite their off‑field issues and a list of injury absentees, the visitors showed grit and organisation, keeping City at bay for long stretches.

It looked like City would hold on until the final whistle, but in the 94th minute, Malo Gusto’s cross caused havoc in the box. Fernández, initially denied by a save, reacted quickest to bundle home the rebound and secure a dramatic point for Chelsea.

The equaliser not only sparked wild celebrations among the visiting fans, but it also left City six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, a significant blow to their title ambitions.
