KOLISI BACK WITH THE STORMERS
South African rugby fans are buzzing after Siya Kolisi confirmed he’s returning to the Stormers ahead of the 2026/27 season, bringing his career full circle to the club where it all began.
The two-time Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok captain has agreed to rejoin the Cape Town-based franchise in July 2026, marking a heartfelt homecoming that’s already stirring huge excitement.
Kolisi, now 34, first broke into professional rugby with the Stormers after leaving school and went on to become one of the most iconic figures in South African sport.
After moves to the Sharks and a stint at French club Racing 92, he rejoined the Sharks in 2024 but always hinted that his heart was set on returning home.
This move will not only allow him to play at the club where his journey started, but it’ll also let him be closer to his family in Cape Town, a big factor in his decision after years of balancing international rugby and club commitments.
Kolisi’s return isn’t just symbolic. The Stormers have been clear that they’re counting on his leadership both on the pitch and off it. Director of Rugby John Dobson has stressed that Kolisi’s experience will be invaluable for mentoring the next generation of loose forwards and leaders as part of the club’s wider Project 2029 vision, which aims to build depth and maturity throughout the squad.
While Kolisi admitted he’d initially hoped to finish his career at the Sharks, putting family first was ultimately the priority. He’s expressed excitement to give back to the fans and club who helped shape his rugby identity and says he’s looking forward to contributing however he can to future successes.
