KIM ENGELBRECHT NOMINATED FOR EMMY
Local actress Kim Engelbrecht has been nominated for an International Emmy award. She received the nomination for her role in the local drama Reyka.
Other nominees in the Best Performance by an Actress category include Celine Buckens from Great Britain, Leticia Colin from Brazil and Lou De Laage from France.
News24 reports that Reyka tells the story of a flawed but brilliant criminal profiler, Reyke Gama. Haunted by her past, she investigates a string of brutal murders committed by a serial killer in the sugar cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal.
This isn’t the first time that Engelbrecht has been nominated for her role, although the International Emmy is the first international nomination. The actress recently won the South African Film and Television (SAFTA) for her role as Reyka.
Reyka has also made history as the first African drama series to be nominated in more than a decade. It’s also only the third ever drama series in 10 years following Home Affairs in 2007 and 2008, and Sokhulu and Partners in 2009.
The 50th International Emmy Awards will take place on 21 November in New York City where the winners will be announced.
