MCDONALD’S EMPLOYEE JAILED FOR SPITTING IN MCFLURRY
A former McDonald’s employee has appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court after he was sentenced to 10 years for extortion.
Clement Othusitse Seothaeng filmed himself in 2017. The footage featured Seothaeng as he spat into a McFlurry ice cream mix and then closed the lid. He filmed it himself, but never showed his face. His McDonald’s uniform was visible.
Seothaeng then sent the 20-second video to his manager from another cell phone number posing as “a concerned customer”. He, posing as the concerned customer, then demanded R150 000 from his employer or threatened to share the footage on social media.
The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said that the manager acted swiftly.
“The manager reported the matter to the police immediately, a trap was set up and Seothaeng was arrested a few days later on 29 September 2017.”
News24 reports that he was sentenced to 10 years for extortion and five years for malicious damage to property. The court ordered that the sentences should be served concurrently.
McDonald’s South Africa hasn’t commented on the case.
