BECKHAM HANDS OVER INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT TO UKRAINIAN DOCTOR

Former footballer David Beckham recently handed over control of his Instagram account to a Ukrainian doctor currently working in the city of Kharkiv.

Through UNICEF, Doctor Iryna Kondratova took Beckham’s 71.6 million followers through a cramped basement where all pregnant women, new mothers and babies were moved to when they had to evacuate during the first day of the Russian attack on the city.

Doctor Kondratova shared videos of her, a child anesthesiologist and head of the regional perinatal centre, as she takes on responsibilities during another busy day.

The Guardian reports that Iryna said she now worked “24/7” and that “We are probably risking our lives, but we don’t think about it at all. We love our work… Doctors and nurses here, we worry, we cry, but none of us will give up.”

During one of the Insta stories, Doctor Iryna showed a young mother with her son. The baby was born with breathing problems, but their family home was destroyed so they had to be taken care of in the basement.

Beckham has been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2005 and has urged his followers to donate to the charity.

“Thanks to your donations, the oxygen generators they have received are helping newborns survive in appalling conditions,” he said.

Kharkiv is Ukraine's second-largest city and has been the constant target of the Russians since they invaded the country three weeks ago.
