PASSENGER ARRESTED AFTER OPENING EMERGENCY EXIT AND WALKING ON WING

A man was arrested on Thursday morning after he opened the emergency exit of a United Airlines plane and walked out onto the wing.

The incident took place at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport while the plane was taxiing. It had just landed in Chicago from San Diego.

According to a statement by the Chicago Police Department, “a male subject was on board a plane that was approaching the gate when he pulled the emergency exit and walked out onto the wing of the plane. The subject then slid down the wing and onto the airfield”.

CNN reports that United Airlines said the ground crew stopped the individual outside the aircraft. When the plane arrived at the gate, all passengers deplaned safely, according to a statement from the airline.

At this stage, it is unclear if the man was under any influence.

Because of the incident, the plane was delayed by 20 minutes. After the man was arrested and the emergency door closed again, the plane continued down the runway and safely deplaned all the other passengers at the gate.
