SUNRISERS SNATCH SA20 GLORY IN THRILLING CAPE TOWN CHASE
Sunrisers Eastern Cape have once again proven why they’re the kings of SA20, edging the Pretoria Capitals in a dramatic final at Newlands to clinch their third title in four seasons on Sunday.
With a target of 159 to win, the Orange Army looked out of it at 48/4, but a breathtaking partnership changed everything and delivered a memorable victory.
Pretoria Capitals had set a competitive 158/7 thanks to a stunning century from Dewald Brevis, who blasted 101 from 56 balls, clearing the rope seven times in a spectacular innings that thrilled the sell-out Newlands crowd.
His effort looked like it’d be the difference early on, especially after the Capitals found themselves in trouble at 8/2 in the powerplay.
But Sunrisers skipper Tristan Stubbs (63 off 41)* and Matthew Breetzke (68 off 49)* had other ideas. The pair dug deep and then unleashed a remarkable unbroken 114-run stand for the fifth wicket to power Eastern Cape home with four balls to spare, showcasing both calm and calculated aggression when it mattered most.
The turning point came when the Capitals tightened at 48/4, and Brevis looked like he might single-handedly carry his side. But the Sunrisers fought back with disciplined bowling, including a tight spell from Marco Jansen, keeping the target within reach.
