RED DEVILS ROAR BACK
Manchester United pulled off one of the most stunning results of the Premier League season, beating neighbours Manchester City 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday and doing it in style.
It wasn’t just a derby win; it was Michael Carrick’s perfect start as interim head coach, in a result that has lifted spirits around the club and dealt a serious blow to City’s title hopes.
Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu in the second half were enough to seal the victory after a tight opening period. United had the chances before the break too, including Harry Maguire hitting the crossbar and two goals ruled out for offside. But it was the Reds who made their pressure count after the interval.
Carrick was quick to praise his players after the match, saying he “couldn’t ask for any more” and highlighting the players’ tactical discipline and emotional control under pressure. While he admitted the day was “very special,” he also urged consistency and warned that one big result doesn’t change the job ahead.
City, for their part, struggled to find any rhythm. Possession stats looked good on paper for Pep Guardiola’s side, but they rarely threatened the United goal, with Erling Haaland withdrawn late on amid a largely anonymous performance.
Guardiola conceded that “the better team won” and paid credit to United’s energy and execution.
