CARRICK CLINCHES THE HOT SEAT AT OLD TRAFFORD
Manchester United look set to turn the page on another turbulent chapter by appointing Michael Carrick as their interim manager until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Carrick edges out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the race to take charge at Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim’s recent sacking.
Reports indicate that Carrick has already begun work at the club’s training ground and could be officially confirmed in the role imminently.
The 44-year-old former United midfielder impressed the club hierarchy during a series of face-to-face interviews over the weekend, earning the nod ahead of Solskjaer, who had at one point been seen as a frontrunner for the job.
Carrick’s detailed plans, including his vision for key young talent like Kobbie Mainoo, reportedly helped sway decision-makers, alongside strong backing from senior players within the squad.
Carrick’s appointment marks a homecoming of sorts. He’d previously stepped in as caretaker manager for a short spell in 2021 and enjoyed a distinguished playing career at United, winning multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League.
He inherits a team that’s struggling for form and consistency. United currently sit outside the Champions League spots in the Premier League and have already been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.
Carrick’s first big test in charge will be the Manchester derby against City, followed by a tough trip to face leaders Arsenal. How he handles those fixtures will go a long way toward shaping the narrative around his short-term reign.
