MAN UTD FINALLY PULL THE PLUG ON AMORIM
Manchester United have fired Ruben Amorim as their head coach, ending a turbulent 14-month spell in charge at Old Trafford.
The club confirmed the Portuguese coach’s departure on Monday, just hours after a tense 1-1 draw with Leeds United and a highly publicised press conference in which Amorim criticised the club hierarchy and openly questioned his role.
Amorim’s time at the world-famous club was never smooth. After succeeding Erik ten Hag in November 2024, he managed just 24 wins in 63 matches across all competitions, with only 15 victories in the Premier League.
That put United sixth in the league at the time of his sacking, too far off the top four to satisfy supporters and the board.
Tensions had been simmering behind the scenes for weeks. Amorim’s insistence on his preferred tactics, particularly a rigid 3-4-3 formation, frustrated many at the club, and he didn’t shy away from telling senior figures like director of football Jason Wilcox to “do their job” after the Leeds game.
He even declared he wanted to be “manager, not the coach,” which club sources say did little to improve strained relations.
