PROTEAS UNLEASH FRESH FIREPOWER FOR T20 WORLD CUP
South Africa has announced a bold and exciting 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka from early February to March.
Aiden Markram will captain the side, leading a mix of seasoned campaigners and exciting young talent aiming to go one better than their runners-up finish last time.
The selection panel’s choices show they aren’t afraid to back youth, with seven players earning their maiden T20 World Cup call-ups.
Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka and Jason Smith are all in line to make their first appearances on cricket’s biggest short-form stage.
Of course, there’s still plenty of experience in this Proteas unit. Quinton de Kock returns to bolster the batting line-up, and David Miller will provide his typical calm aggression in the middle overs.
The bowling unit gets a big boost with the return of pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada from injury alongside Anrich Nortje, who was South Africa’s top wicket-taker in the previous T20 World Cup. Spinner Keshav Maharaj and all-rounders like Marco Jansen add depth and versatility.
The Proteas have been drawn in Group D alongside Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates, and they’ll kick off their campaign against Canada in Ahmedabad on 9 February.
