ALL BLACKS CUT ROBERTSON LOOSE AFTER TUMULTUOUS TERM
New Zealand Rugby has sensationally ended Scott Robertson’s tenure as head coach of the All Blacks.
The 51-year-old is departing midway through a four-year contract following a critical internal review and mounting unrest within the squad.
Robertson, affectionately known as “Razor”, was confirmed to be leaving the role this week after a damning end-of-season review into the All Blacks’ 2025 performances.
The review, led by NZR chairman David Kirk, examined both on-field results and off-field dynamics and ultimately concluded that “things were not on track” for the team’s long-term goals, especially with the 2027 Rugby World Cup looming.
In a statement, Kirk said discussions between NZR and Robertson led to a mutual agreement that parting ways was in the best interests of the team’s future. The review reportedly highlighted widespread disappointment with strategic direction and results under Robertson’s leadership, and indicated concerns voiced by plenty of senior players.
Robertson himself admitted he was “gutted” by the outcome but reiterated his pride in the work done with the team. He pointed to several promising young players who had emerged on his watch and said he believed the foundations laid would serve New Zealand well moving forward.
The decision has triggered mixed reactions among fans, with many shocked by the timing, less than two years before the World Cup cycle’s climax.
