AIRBNB TO OFFER WEIRD LOCATIONS SOON

Imagine waking up in the middle of an avocado. Or falling asleep inside a flower.

This could be a reality soon thanks to Airbnb. In 2022, the online accommodation site launched a project called the OMG! Fund. The aim of the fund is to finance 100 ideas.

But, these ideas can’t just be any old idea. It has to be an out-of-this-world idea and the creator should be able to turn their idea into an actual place that people would be able to rent on Airbnb.

Airbnb has shortlisted recipients from 23 countries to start building their creations. The deal is that the creations have to be finished by June/July 2023 so that guests can book them on the website and stay there.

There are four South African creations on the shortlist, they are:

·        A salt cave and forest dwelling with glass bottle.

·        A stargazing stone igloo.

·        A desert flower opening to a star-filled sky.

·        A modern African earth retreat in the bush.

Airbnb superhost Kristie Wolfe is one of the judges:

“What an incredible journey it has been to be a part of the OMG! Fund judging process. There were so many inspiring stories and destinations that I had never heard of before that I’m eager to visit.”
