MARKS & SPENCER HIT WITH CYBER INCIDENT
One of Britain’s most well-known retailers has been hit with a cyber incident.
Marks & Spencer informed the London Stock Exchange (LSE) on Tuesday that it has been managing a “cyber incident” for “the past few days”. It added that “minor, temporary changes” were made to its store operations.
The notification to the LSE didn’t include details about the date of the incident or what kind of incident the high-street retailer was dealing with.
In an email to its customers, CEO Stuart Machin said its click & collect orders were affected.
“Importantly, our stores remain open, and our website and app are operating as normal. There’s no need for you to take any action at this time and if the situation changes, we’ll let you know. There may be some limited delays to your click and collect order, which we’re working hard to resolve."
In the United Kingdom, the law requires that a cyberattack be reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office as well as the National Cyber Security Centre.
The email also emphasised that any changes in the situation will be communicated to customers.
“Customer trust is incredibly important to us, and if the situation changes, an update will be provided as appropriate.”
