ALL FEMALE CREW TRAVELS TO SPACE
An international popstar, an award-winning journalist and Oprah’s bestie were just some of the women among the group of 5 who travelled into space.
The group lifted off on a Blue Origin rocket from West Texas and headed for space.
The crew consisted of international popstar Katy Perry, journalist and TV presenter Gayle King, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyn, and Lauren Sanchez who is an author and fiancée of Blue Origin owner, Jeff Bezos.
Perry made history twice by becoming the first all-female crew to head to space in 30 years, and she also became the first singer to sing in space.
After passing the Karman line and being weightless for four minutes, Perry sang ‘What A Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong as a tribute to the view she had from Earth.
Afterwards, Perry was asked why she chose that particular song, to which she replied:
“It’s not about me or about me singing my songs, it was about a collective energy in there. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it.”
Once back on Earth, the singer emerged from the rocket along with her fellow crew members. Perry bent down to kiss the ground.
