NINTENDO PULLS NINTENDO SWITCH PRE-ORDERS IN US

United States President Donald Trump’s new global tariffs have caused Nintendo to cancel any pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States.

The highly anticipated console was unveiled on Wednesday, just hours before Trump announced his new global tariffs.

In a statement released by Nintendo, the company said it still intends to launch the console on 5 June, but pre-order plans will now have to be revised.

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start on 9 April to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”

Nintendo confirmed that this will only affect the United States and other countries can still pre-order the console.

Trump introduced global tariffs, which he believes will boost the United States’ economy and protect jobs.

Nintendo is based in Japan which has been hit with a 24% tariff.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba referred to the tariff as a “national crisis”, saying “the government will do its utmost to respond to this crisis, involving the entire country”.

The tariff hike could mean that buyers in the United States will have no choice but to buy the new Switch 2 at a price increased by 24%.
