RUSSELL BRAND CHARGED WITH RAPE
London’s Metropolitan Police has announced that British actor and comedian Russell Brand has been charged with rape and other sexual offenses against four women.
The charges consist of one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, once count of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault.
The Met Police began an investigation into Brand in September 2023 after a joint investigation led by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches brought forward serious allegations against Brand.
In a statement released by the Met Police, the incidents occurred between 1999 and 2005. It’s alleged that one woman was raped in Bournemouth in 1999; one woman was indecently assaulted in London in 2001; one woman was orally raped and sexually assaulted in 2004 in London; and another woman was sexually assaulted between 20024 and 2005 also in London.
The Met Police didn’t provide any information about Brand’s current whereabouts but said he will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London early next month.
In response to the allegations, Brand said on X:
“When I was young and single before I had my wife and family… I was a fool, man, I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord.”
“I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was, was a rapist, I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity, and I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
