VAL KILMER DIES
Val Kilmer has passed away. He was 65.
The actor’s daughter Mercedes confirmed the news that Kilmer passed away from pneumonia.
RTE reports that Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and later underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and a tracheostomy, which affected his ability to speak.
Kilmer’s biggest role was as the competitive fighter pilot Iceman in the 1986 movie Top Gun. His character was the initial rival and eventual friend of his co-star Tom Cruise’s Maverick.
The movie made the two actors household names and both starred in the XXX.
After Top Gun, Kilmer starred in various well-known movies alongside famous stars like Jim Carey, Tommy Lee Jones and Al Pacino.
In 1995, Kilmer played Batman in Batman Forever opposite Nicole Kidman.
He earned critical acclaim for portraying Jim Morrison in the 1991 biopic about The Doors frontman.
Kilmer has two children from his marriage to Joanne Whalley, whom he met on the set of the movie Willow in 1988.
The sequel to Top Gun was released in 2022. In Top Gun: Maverick Kilmer reprised his role as Iceman opposite Cruise. That was to be the last movie he starred in.
