GERDA STEYN WINS SIXTH TWO OCEANS IN A ROW
For the sixth time in a row, South Africa’s female ulra-marathon star Gerda Steyn won the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town on Saturday.
Although she was unable to beat her own personal best time, Steyn finished the race in 3:29:09 to claim the title as the first female to cross the finish line.
Running for the Hollywood Athletics Club, Steyn made it look easy when she entered the final stage of the race that finished at the University of Cape Town’s rugby fields, with a big smile across her face.
She waved to the crowds and showed her appreciation for their support.
Steyn started running when she joined a running club in 2014 while she was working in Dubai. She joined the running club to make friends in a foreign city, but never thought it would ultimately become her full-time career.
The marathon was won by Steyn’s teammate Khoarahlane Seutloali.
Seutloali managed to win the marathon with a time of 3:10:46. It was his first time winning the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon.
The runner-up was Siboniso Sikhakhane with a time of 3:11:17 giving him a podium finish.
Kenyan Shelmet Miruiki came in third place.
The women’s runner-up was Neheng Khathala from Lesotho who won the Soweto Marathon late last year.
