ONE DEAD, SEVERAL INJURED AS STAGE COLLAPSES IN SPAIN

One person has died and at least 17 have been injured after a stage at a music festival in Spain was blown over by strong winds.

The Medusa Festival took place near Valencia in Spain. The incident happened at 04:18.

At the time of the incident, there were about 50 000 people at the festival site. Thanks to the exit doors functioning properly, it only took authorities 40 minutes to evacuate everyone attending.

The Spanish Civil Guard, the country’s paramilitary police unit running the investigation, said there was more damage than just the partial collapse of the stage.

“Due to a strong gust of wind, the main entrance and the main stage of the Medusa Festival in Cullera fell to the ground,” a spokesperson in the city of Valencia told CNN.

The festival organisers first announced that they had suspended the festival to pay their respect to the person who died as well as those injured.

Soon after their announcement, the planning went from suspended to cancelled.

“The adverse and unexpected weather conditions that expected to continue throughout the day oblige us morally and out of responsibility to put an end to the 2022 edition of the festival”.
