2 MILLION ATTEND GAGA’S SHOW IN BRAZIL
Rio de
Janeiro’s Copacabana beach was the setting for Lady Gaga’s latest show in
Brazil.
The concert
was free of charged and hosted by the Brazilian city’s local government in an
effort to revitalize Rio’s economy. Local economists expect the concert to
bring in around $100 million to the local economy.
The
beachfront concert formed part of the pop star’s worldwide tour to promote her
latest album Mayhem.
Organisers have
disclosed that about 2.1 million people were estimated to have been in the
crowd.
Guests
started queuing up to get a good spot and were surprised to find the 39-year-old
singer giving a free show as part of her rehearsal the night before the show.
“I’ve
missed you so much. I know that this isn’t the first show here, I know this is
just a rehearsal, it feels like it’s the real show.”
As part of
her rehearsal, Lady Gaga treated the crowd to one of her famous songs
Alejandro.
The show
was supported by a massive security operation with 5 000 police officers
on duty, supported by drones and facial recognition cameras. Concert goers had
to pass through metal detectors.
Lady Gaga’s
concert was the second time in two years that a massive act is hosted by the city
to perform. Madonna performed there last year.
