AKA’S FAMILY ASKS FOR PRIVACY

Rapper AKA’s family has expressed their gratitude for South Africa as they deal with their loss.

Kiernan AKA Forbes was killed in a hit on Friday night. The incident happened in Florida Road, Durban as the 35-year-old and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane left a restaurant.

AKA was in Durban to perform at a club later that night. It’s believed he was on his way to the club when he left the restaurant.

CCTV footage, which has since been shared online, shows the two men leaving the restaurant as they say goodbye to other people when two men with guns approached them. They shot and killed AKA and Tibz before running away.

Both men were declared dead when police arrived shortly after the shooting.

AKA’s family has asked the public to give them privacy so that they can deal with the trauma. The family visited the murder scene early on Saturday morning where they said he was more than a celebrity to them, he was their son, a father, a brother and a friend to many.

No arrests have been made since, but police have confirmed that they are investigating two counts of murder.

AKA is survived by his seven-year-old daughter Kairo who he shared with his ex-wife DJ Zinhle.
