82-YEAR-OLD FOUND STILL BREATHING AT FUNERAL HOME

An elderly American woman was pronounced dead and only hours after, she was found breathing at a funeral home in New York.

On Saturday, the woman was pronounced dead by staff at the Waters Edge Rehab and Nursing Centre at about 11:15. She was then transported to the OB Davis Funeral Home at 13:30.

About 40 minutes later she was discovered breathing at the funeral home. In total, it was almost three hours since she was declared dead.

When staff at the funeral home discovered that the 80-year-old is still breathing, they called a hospital where she was transferred to.

A representative for the New York Attorney General said her office is looking into the situation.

“This is an awful situation that has caused unnecessary trauma for the impacted resident and her loved ones,” a representative said.

This is not the first time that something like this has happened in the United States.

Business Insider reports that a 66-year-old hospice patient came to gasping for air inside a body bag at an Iowa funeral home last month after she was prematurely pronounced dead at an Alzheimer’s care centre.
