ALCARAZ BAGS STEFAN EDBERG AWARD 2025
It was another headline-making moment for Carlos Alcaraz when he was named winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, marking the second time in his career he’s lifted this honour.
Alcaraz capped a stellar 2025 season by finishing as Year-End World No. 1, compiling a 71-9 win/loss record and lifting eight trophies, including two major titles.
But it wasn’t just about the trophies. What really stood out was how he carried himself. Judges singled out a defining moment at the French Open this year, when Alcaraz conceded a point to his opponent Ben Shelton even though the umpire had already awarded it to him after a volley.
He admitted his racket had slipped from his hand before the ball was struck, meaning the point belonged to Shelton. “I would’ve felt guilty if I didn’t say anything,” he said afterwards.
That moment of honesty didn’t go unnoticed. For 2025, nominees included Felix Auger-Aliassime, Grigor Dimitrov and Casper Ruud, but the final decision was made by the longstanding ATP “No. 1 Club,” a first in the award’s history.
In joining the ranks of multiple-time winners (alongside legends like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal), Alcaraz is being celebrated not just as a champion of results but as a champion of respect, fairness and integrity.
