CANADIAN PM ANNOUNCES SEPARATION FROM WIFE
Justin Trudeau and his wife of 18 years, Sophie Gregoire have announced their separation.
The prime minister of Canada’s office released a statement saying that although they have signed a legal separation agreement, they will “remain a close family” for the sake of their three kids.
The statement said the couple made the decision after “many meaningful and difficult conversations”.
Trudeau also posted a personal message on his social media accounts.
“Hi everyone, Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate. As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build.
“For the well-being of our children, we ask that you respect our and their privacy. Thank you!”
News24 reports that Trudeau and Gregoire met as children when she was a classmate of his youngest brother, Michel, and they reconnected as adults when they co-hosted a 2003 charity gala. They married two years later.
