ELON MUSK MEETS UP WITH CYRIL RAMAPHOSA

One was born in Pretoria and the other one now stays in Pretoria. South African president Cyril Ramaphosa and South African-born billionaire Elon Musk met up during Ramaphosa’s visit to the United States.

Ramaphosa is currently in America leading a R2-trillion investment drive as well as a high-level general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly currently underway in New York.

During the general assembly, Ramaphosa met up with the Tesla founder to discuss investment in South Africa.

Both men as well as the SA government shared a photo of the two men on X, the social platform owned by Musk. Musk commented that it was “great meeting” the president.

Ramaphosa said the far-reaching structural reforms the country has implemented over the past six years have opened up the country to increased levels of investment that continue to grow.

“This has been particularly evident in the clean energy sector that has attracted significant investment since our mobilization drive began”, Ramaphosa said.

Another aspect that Ramaphosa touched on was the country’s efforts to get off the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list. The greylisting happened in February 2023 for not complying with international standards relating to money laundering and addressing illicit financial flows.
