JOHN OLIVER DEDICATES EMMYS SPEECH TO ‘ALL DOGS’
Late-night talk show host John Oliver had audience members laughing and feeling all the feels when he mentioned his dog who recently passed away during his acceptance speech at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
The event took place on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
Oliver, whose talk show Last Week Tonight won the Emmy for best-scripted variety series, paid tribute to his family and his family’s dog.
After thanking his wife and kids, Oliver said “I also want to thank – this is going to be very silly – our dog.”
The presenter had the audience giggling while he shared that they “had the most fantastic dog, and she was at our wedding, and she got us through the pandemic. She was with us for two pregnancies.”
When the music started to play which usually signals that an award recipient should start wrapping up their speech, Oliver continued saying: “Perfect choice of music. We had to say goodbye to her.”
This hit the audience right in the feels and he got a loud “aw” from them.
Then, in true John Oliver style, he ended off with the F-bomb and these famous last words: “I feel like Sarah McLachlan right now.”
Other winners during the ceremony that was hosted by father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, included Shogun for Outstanding Drama Series, and Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Baby Reindeer won two Emmys for writing and lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie.
