EIGHT DIE AFTER TRYING TO CROSS ENGLISH CHANNEL

French authorities said on Sunday that eight people have died while trying to cross the English Channel from France to England.

This isn’t the first time this month that people have died in a similar situation. Earlier this month, 12 people died when their boat capsized in the Channel on its way to England.

Rescue crews were alerted that a boat with 59 people on board was in difficulty in waters off the coast of Ambleteuse in the Pas-de-Calais area.

The Channel has been a hot topic for negative reasons and with the latest incident people are hoping that it will put pressure on the British and French governments to do something about the situation.

Jacques Billant, the Prefect of the Pas-de-Calais region said the dead men were from Eritrea, Sudan, Syria, Egypt, Iran and Afghanistan.

“A new drama took place around one in the morning and we deplore the death of eight people.”

The English Channel is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes and currents are strong. This makes it very dangerous when trying to cross on a small boat.

On Saturday alone, there were eight attempts to cross the Channel from France. Around 200 migrants were rescued on this day.
