UK GOVERNMENT STEPS IN OVER OASIS TICKETS
Many Oasis fans rejoiced when the news broke that Oasis would be reuniting for a limited number of shows.
The English rock band was a regular in the music charts during the 90s at the height of their music career. The band consisted of five members including brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher.
The tumultuous relationship between the two brothers is what eventually led to the band’s break up.
Tickets to the concerts are sold through two official states, one of them being Ticketmaster who received 450 complaints regarding the prices of tickets.
Many people complained that the system crashed because the demand for tickets was too high. Others said that when they selected the tickets they wanted, the price doubled by the time they reached the payment section.
Initially, standing tickets were sold for about R3,500 per ticket. When the payment had to be made, the tickets escalated to about R8,000 per ticket.
UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy eventually stepped in when she announced that surge pricing would be investigated by the government.
She called the inflated prices “depressing” and added that the practice would be reviewed as part of the government’s upcoming consultation on consumer protections in ticket sales and resales.
“We will include issues around the transparency and use of dynamic pricing, including the technology around queuing systems which incentivise it.”
