FLYSAFAIR TAKES CHEEKY STAB AT EMIRATES
It’s the battle of the airlines as rugby welcomes a new rivalry.
Locally operated FlySafair has taken a cheeky stab at one of its international counterparts Emirates Airlines.
At the recent Springboks versus All Blacks rugby test that took place in Johannesburg, the timing of an Emirates Airlines flight was put in the spotlight.
Ellis Park, now known as Emirates Park, played host to the battle between the two biggest rivals in the world of rugby. While the All Blacks were doing their honorary Haka, an Emirates plane flew over the stadium and caused the crowd to cheer loudly.
Unfortunately, this timing was seen as disrespectful by the All Blacks players and fans as the Haka is seen as a sacred part of the New Zealand culture.
This led to SA Rugby apologising to the New Zealand ruby team and its supporters.
Only a week later, the two countries faced each other again, this time in Cape Town.
But, this time FlySafair was the airline asked to fly low over Cape Town’s DHL Stadium and it did so very successfully.
Everyone was able to hear and watch the Haka and only when it finished, did the plane come flying over.
Not withholding the tongue-in-cheek punches, FlySafair soon posted on their social feeds that not only are they South Africa’s most on-time airline, but also “the world’s most on-time (and well timed) airline”.
