DRUG MULE ARRESTED AT OR TAMBO

An alleged drug mule has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport.

According to a statement, a cleaner at the airport was also involved.

“This (alleged) drug mule had just landed from Sao Paulo (in Brazil) and was connecting to Nigeria when he met with a cleaner at the airport and (was) handed aircraft headphones.”

Luckily, officials didn’t miss a beat and acted swiftly when the handover took place.

“Suspecting that there was something amiss, a team (of officials) opened the aircraft headphones and found cocaine stashed in the headphones.”

Inside the headphones, at least 450 grams of cocaine were found. The cleaner is on the run and police has launched a manhunt to find him as he’s been charged with drug trafficking.

The (alleged) drug mule told police he was a street vendor in Nigeria and that was in Brazil to buy clothes and shoes which he sells in his home country.

“Police are investigating this aspect to prove that this may be used as a decoy by this (alleged) drug trafficker.”

According to police, drugs with a street value of more than R13 million have been seized at OR Tambo over the past two months.

During the same period, nine alleged drug traffickers and drug mules were arrested.
