DEPUTY PRESIDENT COLLAPSES DURING SPEECH
Paul Mashatile received medical treatment after he was assisted from the stage. During a keynote address in Limpopo on Saturday, the 62-year-old collapsed from the heat.
Areas in the northern parts of South Africa are currently in the midst of a heatwave with temperatures reaching 36 degrees at Valoyi Cultural Village in Tzaneen where Mashatile was delivering the speech on Saturday.
He was wearing a suit while delivering the speech.
The Deputy President’s spokesperson, Keith Koza said that Mashatile is “fine” following a medical checkup that was conducted after the incident.
In a statement, Khoza said: “While delivering his keynote address, the Deputy President felt lightheaded from the heat and was attended to by his medical team.”
Both the President and Deputy President of South Africa always have a team from the South African Medical Services who travel with them. They’re the responsible medical care team at all times.
Shortly after the incident, the Deputy President left Limpopo and went back home to Gauteng.
