FIVE ARRESTED AT SA LESOTHO BORDER FOR SMUGGLING CASH

The Border Management Authority (BMA) has confirmed that five Lesotho nationals have been arrested at the South Africa/Lesotho border.

The men were arrested at the Qashasnek border post between the two countries after almost R1.5 million in cash was found concealed in black plastic bags.

The men were travelling in a vehicle that was stopped during a routine check done by border police.

According to EWN, BMA Deputy Assistant Commissioner Mmemme Mogotsi said four of those arrested had been previously banned from entering South Africa under the Immigration Act.

Once the men were arrested and the money confiscated, it was deposited into the state bank account while further investigations into the matter were pending.

Mogotsi said that bi-national operations at the borders will continue as the two countries aim to fight corruption.

“We will rigorously enforce the law and take decisive action against any illegal activities to maintain the integrity of our borders.”
