KRISPY KREME CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF FRIENDS
It’s been 30 years since the world’s favourite sitcom aired and Krispy Kreme is celebrating it in style.
Some of the doughnuts include Trifle, a strawberry and custard-filled doughnut that references a 1999 episode about a failed dessert, reports CNN. Another doughnut features the Friends logo and it’s a chocolate-glazed doughnut topped with an image of the fountain in the show’s opening credits.
The doughnut maker has caused excitement with die-hard fans of the show hoping to get their Friends doughnuts, but the campaign has also caused major controversy.
Even though Friends was set in New York City, the doughnuts won’t be available to buy in the city. In fact, it won’t be available anywhere in the United States.
Krispy Kreme has confirmed that the Friends doughnuts will only be available in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
While Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth said the campaign forms part of the company’s aim to “constantly innovate and bring excitement to the brand”, fans in the United States had some harsh words for the doughnut retailer.
“Why the Friends doughnuts only in the UK?! We’d love to have them here as well!” one Instagram user wrote on the social media platform.
Krispy Kreme hasn’t commented on the matter.
