TICKETMASTER FALLS VICTIM TO MASSIVE DATA BREACH
Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster has confirmed that it has suffered a big data breach.
This is due to a breach of the Snowflake cloud database where many companies like Live Nation store their data on servers.
Live Nation is an international company with a Ticketmaster arm in South Africa. It declined to confirm or deny whether its South African offices also felt the impact of the breach.
The breach was discovered when the hacking group ShinyHunters made it known that they were responsible for the attack. They posted an advert for the data on the dark web.
MyBroadband reports that ShinyHunters claims that its data archive includes the names, addresses, phone numbers, and partial credit card details of Ticketmaster customers worldwide.
A statement released by Live Nation said that they’ve launched an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter.
“We are working to mitigate risk to our users and the company, and have notified and are cooperating with law enforcement.”
The hacking group has demanded a ransom of R9.2 million. If the ransom isn’t met, the group has threatened to start selling the data to other parties.
