MAN LOSES RING IN BALLOT BOX WHILE VOTING
A 36-year-old man from Pretoria lost his wedding ring in a ballot box while voting on Wednesday.
Johan Hamman told News24 that the ballot box was already very full when he tried to cram his three ballots into the box. He voted at the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voting station at Hoërskool Waterkloof.
When he got his hand out, he realised that his wedding ring was missing. He immediately went to the IEC official there and said he needed help to get his ring out of the ballot box.
The officials explained to him that the ballot box had to remain sealed and couldn’t be opened at the time. The box could only be opened once and that was when the ballots were to be counted.
Hamman was forced to leave without his wedding ring.
Just before midnight on Wednesday, Hamman received a call from an IEC official. His ring had been found. He went straight to the polling station where he voted to get the ring.
Although Hamman was very calm about the situation, his wife Marinell (36) wasn’t so cool about the ordeal. She received the news via WhatsApp as she is currently in Sweden for a veterinary congress.
