INDIA WINS T20 WORLD CUP
It was the dramatic final the world was waiting for when India defeated South Africa to win the T20 World Cup final in Bridgetown, Barbados.
India won by seven runs giving the country its first win since it last won a World Cup 13 years ago.
India set the bar very high when they set a score of 177 runs to win. It’s the highest-ever score in a men’s T20 final and no easy feat.
At one stage, South Africa not only matched the high run rate but was ahead of the Indians’ run rate. And that’s when India’s bowling experts stepped in.
Quintin de Kock and newcomer Tristan Stubbs were hitting the ball out of the ground and quickly managed a 50 partnership before Surayakuma Yadav managed to curb the Proteas’ force with exceptional bowling.
It seemed as if David Miller was going to be the hero the South Africans so badly wanted until he was caught at the boundary by Suryakumar Yadav.
The controversial catch saw Yadav fall over and almost lose the ball before managing to catch it. Many believed his foot touched the boundary which should have ended in a six, not a dismissal.
But the third umpire decided that it was a dismissal.
