METROPOLITAN AND UBER OFFERING FREE RIDES TO JOB SEEKERS

The unemployment rate among young people in South Africa is rising and it’s something Metropolitan and Uber would like to eliminate. That’s why they’ve launched the Job Seekers Initiative.

According to Stats SA, 45.5% of young people aged between 15 and 34 are unemployed.

Through the Job Seekers Initiative, job seekers between the ages of 18 and 35 can get free rides when they’re going to interviews.

During June and July, the campaign will sponsor 500 Uber rides through vouchers. And because not all employment situations are offered by employers only, 50 entrepreneurs will also be offered free rides.

News24 reports the campaign aims to aid in the commute to employment opportunities, including job interviews, training sessions, induction programmes, and any other meeting related to securing a job.

To qualify, employment seekers between the ages of 18 and 35 must apply online. The 500 vouchers will be distributed at random. The Uber vouchers will be sent to an applicant’s cellphone to use during the months of June and July when going to an interview.

Proof of job interviews must be provided.
