INTERCAPE BUS ON FIRE

With 46 passengers on board, an Intercape Sleepliner bus caught fire.

The incident happened on Friday night at around 22:50 on the N1, three kilometres from the town of Touws River.

The bus was travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

A passenger told News24 that the passengers started smelling burn wire.

“We started seeing smoke coming from the engine, and that’s when the bus driver tried to turn the bus around, trying to ensure our safety. But, unfortunately, he did not manage.”

The bus then stopped and wouldn’t restart again. Soon after that, the flames were visible.

Luckily all the passengers managed to get out and no one was harmed. Their luggage was damaged though as it was too dangerous to inside the luggage section to retrieve it.

The passengers apparently waited almost two hours before another bus arrived to take the passengers to Cape Town.

After the incident Intercape said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
