ITALIAN GOVERNMENT PUT HOLIDAY RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE
Hundreds and thousands of international tourists are currently on their way, travelling through or just about to leave Italy. It’s a country known for its beauty, delicious food and historical sites. Aspects tourists love.
On top of that, Italy’s Tourism Ministry says around 13 million locals will be travelling within the country at the same time.
August is when Italians celebrate Ferragosto, an ancient holiday first introduced by Augustus, the Roman Empire. The idea behind the holiday is to give workers a break.
With millions of locals and international tourists travelling, the Italian government has decided to put some holiday restrictions in place.
Some of the rules put in place are the access to many popular beaches. Access will only be granted by booking through a designated app. The idea is to control crowd sizes.
Some beaches have even banned the use of plastics, towels, smoking and chairs.
The island of Sardinia has seen a record number of tourists. Authorities there have gone so far as to ban the use of rocks to anchor beach umbrellas.
Sardinia has also banned night swimming, beach camping, bonfires and the use of chairs and towels overnight.
