WOOLIES TO OPEN MORE DARK STORES
Imagine a Woolies where no customers are allowed in, but the business is booming. That’s exactly what’s happening with the food retailer’s new dark stores.
These stores are created to specifically service online orders through Woolies Dash.
The on-demand delivery platform has seen a massive 71% growth over the last year.
Lizz Hillcock, Woolworths Director of Online and Mobile said the aim is to improve customers’ experience.
“Investing in dark stores is a testament to our focus on creating a future-fit omnichannel offering that leverages and transforms existing assets to continuously improve our customer’s experience.”
The first Woolworths dark store was opened in the Cape Town CBD. Since its opening, it’s had a major impact on the availability of products.
Through Woolies Dash, Woolworths has created an additional 2.200 jobs in the value chain over the last year.
On-demand food delivery in South Africa has changed dramatically over the last few years since Checkers introduced its Sixty60 offer.
Checkers recently announced that it’s in the process of expanding its on-demand delivery offering so that it can include more than 10,000 larger Hyper products. This means customers will soon be able to order fridges and other large appliances through the app.
