FAMOUS DRAKENSBERG RESORT BURNS DOWN

Condolences have been stowed upon the Bushman’s Nek Berg and Trout Resort owners and staff in the Drakensberg.

A veld fire gutted the beloved resort. The fire in the neighbouring areas picked up due to a very strong wind. A roof from one of the dwellings had already blown off by 22:00 that night.

Guests were woken up during the middle of the night by the fire that had started to come in from the veld towards the hotel.

One guest said that “everyone was running to their vehicles. It was a case of every person for themselves. We had to run for our lives, there were fireballs and thick smoke that made it difficult to breathe”.

While the fire moved closer to the resort, some of the vehicles belonging to guests caught fire.

In a statement released by the resort, the owners said they’re “deeply heartbroken to share that Bushman’s Nek has been engulfed by a devastating veld fire. The flames have taken away more than just a beautiful destination; they’ve taken away a place where memories were made”.

Luckily, no one was hurt during the fire and everyone managed to escape.

The resort promised to keep people updated on its plans ahead.
