GERMAN HOTEL COLLAPSES, TWO DEAD
A hotel partially collapsed in the German city of Krov on Tuesday, killing two people. At the time of the incident, there were 14 people inside the building.
Several others have been injured with many still trapped under the rubble. Rescue operations are underway to help those trapped.
The hotel is located near the banks of the River Moselle, but it’s believed the location doesn’t have anything to do with the damage. The area is a favourite among tourists and is known for its vineyards and old towns.
The hotel’s roof collapsed at around 23:00 local time. Windows on all the floors began to shatter a the top floor collapsed onto the hotel’s lower floor.
By Wednesday morning, most of those trapped were rescued, including a young Dutch family.
Local police have urged residents in the nearby vicinity to evacuate as the building might collapse further.
Around 250 emergency services personnel were working on the scene, aiding in the rescue efforts. This included medics, rescue dog teams, police and firefighters.
By Wednesday morning all the survivors were rescued and all of them taken to the local hospital.
An investigation is currently underway to determine what the reason for the incident was.
