SINEAD O’CONNOR WAXWORK PULLED
The National Wax Museum Plus in Dublin unveiled their new figure of Irish singer Sinead O’Connor on Thursday.
The unveiling coincided with the first anniversary of her death.
The day after the unveiling, the backlash started. From her family. And the public.
The singer’s brother, John O’Connor said the wax figure “looked nothing like her”.
During an interview, John said he “thought (the waxwork) was hideous” and added, “a friend of mine said to me last night that he’d seen better in (a department store), in the window”.
John continued, saying he was fighting to defend his sister’s honour.
“I lost my sister and to me that’s important. Since she’s not here to defend herself or to speak for herself, I just took it upon myself to contact you about it.”
The museum pulled the wax figure immediately and said that it was “launching a new project to create a more accurate representation,” after agreeing that “the figure doesn’t fully capture Sinead’s unique presence and essence as we intended.”
He explained that the waxwork’s creator wasn’t feeling well and that he retired after being in the industry for many years.
Sinead was 56 when she died from natural causes last year. She was known for her exceptional songwriting and emotional delivery. Her song “Nothing Compares 2 U” made her famous worldwide.
